Texture finish (latex paint effect 1)

Latex paint is often used in the wood finishing, more often in combination with the lacquer (NC) finish, PU or Acid Curing. The uses of latex paint in the wood finishing usually is purposed to make some special effects that cannot be made with the wood finishes material.
In this article we write the finishing uses the latex paint in combination with NC finish to produce a special texture finish.
The finishing the process is as follows:
1. Latex paint
2. Base coat
3. Glaze

Here is the finishing process step by step
  •  Latex paint application
The latex paint is applied at the first step  to create texture on the wood surface.  A thick latex paint is needed, if the paint is too thin, then we can add some talc to make it thicker. \Apply latex paint evenly with a brush to form the texture in the form of straight lines. Wait until the latex paint dry. The latex paint is water-based paint and the application is thick, then it take quite  long time to dry. Normally we need to wait for 1 day to ensure the latex paint dry before continue with the next process. The texture effect formed from the latex paint is usually rough and sharp.  Scuff sand the texture  to reduce the sharp edges and smoother the surface.

  • Application base coat.
Latex pain is the finishing material is thick and water-based, so then it is relatively little difficult to be mixed and adjusted its color. Since that in this finish the latex paint is applied mainly to make the texture effect, while to form color we use the base coat. The NC base coat with the color needed is applied on the texture of latex paint. With this system the color can be more easily controlled then to form the color with the latex paint.
Apply the  base coat with blue color by spray evenly on  the textured surface. The base coat used  is NC base so it dry quickly. Normally it need about 1 hour to let the base coat to dry, before we can continue to the next process. The next process is sanding the base coat. The sanding is purposed to make the smooth surface and also to show some white color of latex paint underneath to make more live finishing looked.
Do scuff sanding to overall surface and do some more sanding on the base coat to appear the white color of the latex paint underneath.

  •  Sealer application
Sealer is applied on the base coat to produce a smooth surface and to give more protection before glaze application. The sealer will reduce the risk of too deep  penetration of the glaze to the base coat. Apply 1 layer sealer by wet spray and let it 30 minute to dry.
  •  Glaze application
Glaze was applied to give more antique  impression of antique of the finishing looked.  Apply glaze with a brush evenly to the surface, let dry and do some highlight.  After that we can add some antique looked with dry brush some glaze on some part. It need about  1 hour to let the glaze dry.

  •  Top coat application
Top coat is the last layer of the finishing to protect the finishing resulted and to create the finishing gloss. The NC top coat with low gloss is used for this finish. Applied the top coat evenly by spray wet overall for all the surface.  Let the top coat to dry. It need about 24 hours to make sure the finish is dry completely and the product is ready to be used.
